Allegory

Allegory:

Bird speaks of Allegorical paintings being used for many purposes such as political, moral teachings, poetic and erotic. Yet I feel like he forgot to mention it’s use in mysticism, surrealism, regionalism and other forms.
An allegory gives form to an intangible idea; it brings the abstract concept to life. In art, love, reason, victory and other abstract ideas are personified to tell a story.

I wonder if all Allegorical art is, by default, didactic? I dont think it is or has to be, but maybe that is the difference between basic symbolism and allegory which assumes there is a lesson involved.
I like it, I like symbolism and I like the idea of creating a form to represent an idea. I have not thought of creating an allegorical piece of art before but I like the challenge.
