Documentary

Documentary:

With the documentary aspects of art and art acting as a document of a real life event, Bird explains how it is almost impossible for it to be a flat, objective view. Instead these documents are influenced by the artists’ perspective which then imbues this first hand recreation with an…”imaginative resonance beyond their function as vehicles for information.” (Bird, 2012, pg. 166)

Being a documentarian myself I can understand how there is no way to produce a document that is purely objective unless you leave a camera on a light post that shoots in all directions and takes a shot of what-ever is going on below. But even then you are not getting the eye level perspective so does that count? And capturing things in a moment can be and often are taken out of context since we only have a small piece of information to base any truth on.
When I create a documentary I choose how to present the information and in what way I want to make the viewer feel. I direct the viewer to focus on certain ideas, I rearrange text or dialogue and I add music to fit my artistic vision.
